Body of drowned woman found on South Longboat beach

Longboat Key Police are investigating a death on the beach Thursday evening near the Longboat Key Club.

Police spokeswoman Tina Adams says the body of an elderly woman was found on the beach about 6:30 p.m.

The elderly woman died after a reported drowning in Longboat Key Thursday evening.

The Longboat Key Police Department was dispatched to the reported drowning at 220 Sand Point Road around 5:46 p.m.

Arriving at the scene, responders found CPR in progress on an elderly woman, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Officers are continuing to investigate this incident as a death investigation.
