Suspicious incident
12:52 p.m.
Officer Connors was dispatched to Bayview Drive for a report of an open rear door. Upon arrival, Officer Connors observed the residence to be vacant, run down, and under construction. Officer Connors observed the rear door open, partially rusted off the hinges with a new door and door casing on the inside. Nothing appeared to be suspicious and all appeared in order. Case clear.
Suspicious incident

Officer Hodo responded to Harbourside Drive in reference to items being moved from the common area. Officer Hodo arrived and was advised by the maintenance that the issue had been cleared up and that the homeowner moved items by mistake. No further investigation.
Oct. 16
Boating warning
1:12 p.m.
Officer Connors while on marine patrol in the area of Jewfish Key, observed a vessel operating on plane with an excessive wake posted in a “slow speed, minimum wake” zone. Officer Connors conducted a vessel stop and advised the operator of the violation. Officer Connors issued the operator a warning and was educated on the violation. Case clear.
Noise complaint
2:02 p.m.
Officer Ferris responded to the 3200 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive for a noise complaint. The complainant did not want to meet. Upon arrival, Officer Ferris observed a construction crew working on what appeared to be a parking garage on the neighboring property. According to town ordinance, construction work on Saturday was permitted until 5 p.m., so there was no infraction at this time. Case clear.
Oct. 17
Boating citation
12:08 p.m.
Officer Connors while on marine patrol in the area of Sister Keys, observed a vessel operating on plane with an excessive wake in a posted “25 mph in ICW, Slow Speed, Minimum Wake Outside of the ICW Channel.” Officer Connors conducted a vessel stop and advised the operator of the violation. The operator immediately began to get angry, yelling and cussing towards Officer Connors, stating that he was only going 35 mph. Officer Connors advised him that this was not the reason why he was stopped and stated that he was operating outside of the channel on plane with an excessive wake. He continued to yell and cuss towards the officer and was unable to produce registration paperwork. Since the operator stated that he was going 35 mph in a posted 25 mph, Officer Connors issued him a verbal warning for the speed and a verbal warning for no registration paperwork in hand. Officer Connors issued the operator a citation for restricted area, speed, wake zone violation. The operator stated that he would see the officer in court and continued to curse.

Fire assist
11:30 p.m.
Officer Nazareno responded to the 4500 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive for a report of an illegal campfire on the beach. The caller did not wish to be contacted or seen. Upon arrival, Longboat Key firefighters advised that they were unable to locate any campfires in the beach area. Officer Nazareno canvassed the area but was unable to locate anyone on the beahc.

Suspicious person
4:46 p.m.
Officer Martinson was dispatched to the 2800 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive on a call of a suspicious person. According to the complainant, there were 5-6 people on the beach grilling and drinking. The caller stated they did not want to meet with police. Upon arrival, Officer Martinson spoke with a group on the beach next to a grill with a cover. However, Officer Martinson did not see any of them with alcohol. The group was advised why the officer was called out to check on them. Officer Martinson told them they are allowed to grill on the beach but to make sure they do not drink alcohol on the beach. Case clear.
Fishing nets
7:09 p.m.
Sgt. Smith was dispatched to Longboat Club Road for a report of fishermen using nets to catch fish. Sgt. Smith made contact with the caller and explained that the fishermen were allowed to use nets and that he would pass along the information to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Sgt. Smith made contact with dispatch and passed along the information. While on the phone, the operator indicated they would also make contact with the caller to gather further information. Case clear.

Citizen dispute
11:14 p.m.
Officer Hodo responded to Harbourside Drive in reference to a citizen dispute. Officers arrived and contacted the complainant. The complainant stated that he was having a problem with a contractor on site that was not checking in the front office and insurance issues. The complainant stated that he spoke to the contractor and the issue was resolved at this time without further incident. The complainant stated that he just needed to make a report. Case clear.
Lost property
11:50 a.m.
Officer Ferris responded to Kingfisher Lane in reference to lost property. Upon arrival, Officer Ferris made contact with the complainant who advised he found his wallet in his suitcase and no longer needed assistance. Nothing further. Case clear.
Bridge arms stuck
2:38 p.m.
Officer Ferris responded to the Longboat Pass Bridge due to a malfunction in the bridge safety arms. The blinking safety arms were stuck in the down position. The bridge mechanic was called on scene and he fixed the issue. Traffic flow was back to normal shortly after the arms were fixed. Nothing further, case clear

Citizen assist
2:30 a.m.
Sgt. Smith was dispatched to Longboat Drive North in reference to a possible water leak. Sgt. Smith arrived and made contact with the caller and informed him the water on the roadway was caused by high tide. The resident stated he has lived here for 30 years and knows what high tide is and that there is a water leak and he can hear it coming from across the street. Sgt. Smith shined his light on the sprinklers that were activated and realized that it was not a water leak but was actually high tide. Case clear.
Crosswalk light
11:55 a.m.
Officer Martinson was dispatched to the crosswalk just north of Broadway because the light was not flashing. Upon arrival, Officer Martinson tested the lights at the crosswalk and found that the light along the northbound lane of travel was not working properly. Officer Martinson contacted the public works department and notified them of the problem. Case clear.
