Fire assist
1:11 p.m.
Officer Hodo responded to 4900 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive in reference to a fire assist on an elevator rescue. Officer Hodo arrived and was advised by fire rescue that the person was taken out of the elevator without further incident. No further investigation. Case clear.
Snake in a bathroom
11:16 p.m.
Officer Tillman responded to Bayou Sound for a reported snake in a house. Upon arrival, Officer Tillman spoke with the complainant who stated that she saw a four foot snake in her bathroom and is unsure of where it may have went. Officers canvassed the area and believed the snake escaped the bathroom area through a plumbing access. The complainant stated that she would have a handyman seal the area on Monday. Case clear.
Feb. 20
Opposum in yard
12:35 p.m.
Officer Montfort responded to 6200 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive in reference to a deceased opossum on a homeowner’s property. Officer Montfort arrived made contact with the complainant who was unsure what to do, the officer asked if the owner possessed a garbage bag or shovel. The complainant provided Officer Montfort with a heavy duty garbage bag. Officer Montfort then placed the opossum in the garbage bag and removed it to the side of the roadway for public works to pick up on Tuesday. An email was placed with the public works distribution group. Case clear.
Feb. 21
Noise complaint
7:40 a.m.
Officer Martinson responded to Cedar Street in reference to a noise complaint. Upon arrival, Officer Martinson observed a glass work truck parked in front of a house and two men setting up electrical cords around the property, Officer Martinson spoke with one of the workers who said he was setting up for work. He stated they had arrived before 8 a.m. and were setting up for the workday but they had not used any tools nor were making any noise. The man was advised about the town’s ordinance and advised to stay in the work truck until 8 a.m. if they arrive early again to which he agreed. Officer Martinson then spoke to the complainant who stated the truck arrived at 7:40 a.m. and the workers started moving equipment onto the property. The complainant confirmed the workers were not making any noise nor using any tools but stated they had entered the construction site before 8 a.m. The complainant stated this was the first time he had seen this particular work truck and the workers were not the cause of any of his previous noise complaints. Officer Martinson advised the complainant that he had already spoken to the worker and they were advised to not start any work until after 8 a.m. Case clear.
Found property
11:30 a.m.
Officer Vaseos responded to the police department and contacted the rental car agency in an attempt to verify the owner of a found CPAP machine, cell phone and charger. The car rental agency was able to provide the officer with the previous car renter’s information. The owner of the property came into the police department and provided his driver’s license and signed a property receipt and retrieved his items. Case clear.
Suspicious incident
5:33 p.m.
Officer Nazareno responded to Yardarm for a report of a suspicious incident where a Range Roger knocked down a trash can at the location. Upon arrival, Officer Nazareno made contact with the complainant who advised that he did not witness the incident but was advised by one of his neighbors of the incident. Officer Nazareno made contact wit the witness who stated that she saw a white vehicle knock down the trash can and continued to trael eastbound on Yardarm Lane and believes that it parked on Yardarm Lane. While conducting the investigation, the driver who lives on Yardarm returned. The driver said that he was on his cell phone when he was driving his vehicle and accidentally hit the trash can. The driver cleaned up the scattered trash on the driveway and offered the complainant to pay for any damages. The trash can was intact and the mailbox post appeared to be a little loose, but no visible damage was observed. The complainant did not wish to file any charges against the driver and was given a case number. Case closed.
Feb. 22
Noise complaints
9:33 a.m.
Officer Vazeos responded to Cedar Street for a noise complaint. Upon arrival, Officer Vazeos observed multiple construction workers from the window company conducting work on a nearby residence playing loud heavy metal music. Employees were requested by patrol to lower the music and they complied. The caller requested to remain anonymous. The matter was resolved, case clear.
Welfare check
2:01 p.m.
Officer Martinson responded to 1200 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive for a welfare check. The man the complainant was looking for had gone out for a walk and had not returned. Upon arrival, Officer Martinson met with the complainant in the front lobby of the condominium. He stated that prior to the Officer’s arrival he had located the man and that everything was okay. The man said he had taken a walk up to the church and was there talking with friends. Case clear.
Citizen assist
4:11 p.m.
Sgt. Puccio while on patrol in the 6400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive was flagged down by a motorist who was having vehicle issues and his car was disabled. The motorist said while he was driving his car lost power. The vehicle was off the roadway in a safe location. Dispatch was given the motorist’s AAA information. The car was towed. Case clear.
Feb. 24
Found property
9:08 a.m.
Officer Zunz while at the police station received a walk in complainant who had found an iPhone he found on the ground near the pavilion at Durante Park. From missed calls on the screen, the officer was able to make contact with the telephone owner’s mother, who in turn advised her daughter to come to the police department to collect her phone. The daughter arrived soon after and was able to unlock the phone. She signed the property receipt and left the police department reunited with her phone. Nothing further.
Suspicious vehicle
4:39 p.m.
Officer Hodo responded to the 6900 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive in reference to a suspicious vehicle. Officer Hodo noted that the complainant thought that a low flying ultra light aircraft was flying too low and endangering the protected birds. Officer Hodo observed no aircraft in the area. Nothing further, case clear.
Found property
4:50 p.m.
Officer Zunz responded to the police department for a lost credit card while on business in Town Hall. Officer Zunz was able to locate a local telephone number for the person named on the credit card; she was appreciative of the effort but advised that after having retraced her steps looking for the card, she finally called the issuing company and reported it lost/had it invalidated moments before the call. At the request of the card owner, Officer Zunz destroyed the card. Case clear.
