April 29
Animal complaint
8:48 a.m.
Officer Hodo responded to Fair Oaks Lane in reference to an injured rabbit. Officer Hodo arrived and located the rabbit that appeared to be injured. Officer Hodo called Sarasota County Animal Control Services who responded and picked up the animal. No further investigation, case clear.
Boating miscellaneous
3:15 p.m.
Officer Connors responded to Sands Point Road, he observed a personal watercraft beached on the shoreline and what appeared to be the operator walking towards the beach. Due to the water depth, Officer Connors advised the party from a short distance away that the beach was private and residents only were permitted. The party advised that he was not from the area and was unaware of the private beach, the party left the area without incident. Case clear.
Citizen assist
8:15 p.m.
Officer Montfort responded to the 100 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive in reference to a citizen assist. Officer Montfort was flagged down by a person who stated she had just been dropped off and was waiting for co-workers. Due to the pouring rain, the woman asked if she could sit in the police vehicle while the storm passed. Officer Montfort allowed the woman to sit in the vehicle while awaiting a ride from a coworker. Case clear, assistance rendered.
April 30
Animal complaint
12:41 p.m.
Officer Nagell responded to the 1000 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive for a complaint about a turtle in the road, upon the officer’s arrival, he located the turtle and moved him to a safer location. Case clear.
Trespassing
2:11 p.m.
Officer Nagell responded to Bay Isles Road for a report of trespassing. Upon his arrival, Officer Nagell met with individuals who were fishing on the Harborside Golf Course. Officer Nagell advised both people that they were on private property and they packed up and left on their own. Case clear.
Abandoned vehicle
4:45 p.m.
Officer Connors while on patrol in the area of Longboat Pass Bridge, observed an unoccupied, red kayak, drifting from east to west, under the Longboat Pass. Officer Connors checked the area for any persons with negative results. Due to no marine unit on the water and negative results with the Manatee Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit, Officer Connors contacted the US Coast Guard and advised them of the incident. The Coast Guard station advised that they had launched a small boat and located the unoccupied kayak. Nothing further at this time. Case clear.
May 1
Noise complaint
10:37 a.m.
Officer Connors was dispatched to Longview Drive for an anonymous report of a noise complaint. Upon arrival, Officer Connors spoke to the landscape company and advised them of the Town Ordinance pertaining to noise. They immediately ceased work and left he area without incident. Case clear.
Citizen assist
3:00 p.m.
Officer Connors was dispatched to the 3100 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive for a report of a femur bone on the beach. Upon arrival, it was determined that the femur bone was in fact a piece of driftwood, covered with barnacles. Case clear.
May 3
Suspicious incident
4:45 a.m.
Officer Martinson responded to the 3500 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive and observed a black GMC in the parking garage with the truck open. Officer Martinson looked inside the vehicle and nothing appeared to have been disturbed or taken from inside the vehicle. Officer Martinson checked the license plate and was unable to locate the owner. Officer Martinson closed the trunk before leaving the parking lot. Case clear.
Citizen assist
2:51 p.m.
Officer Macniven was dispatched to 5600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive on report of a citizen assist. The call was reported as a hard fall through the complainant’s apple smart watch. While en route to the area, dispatch advised that contact was made with the complainant and she was fine. She hit her watch while she was packing up her belongings at the beach. She did not need any assistance and she was no longer in the area. Case clear.
May 4
Suspicious vehicle
11:27 p.m.
Officer Montfort responded to the 5600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive observed a vehicle in the rear lot. While traveling past the vehicle, Officer Montfort noted that a subject was laying in the back of the vehicle. After further investigation, it was determined a golf bag was in the rear of the vehicle. Documentation only.
May 5
Dog on the beach
2:57 p.m.
Officer Connors while on marine patrol observed two dogs on the beach in the area of a pontoon boat. The officer advised the owner of the dogs of the violation and informed him of the town ordinance. The person removed the dogs without incident and left the area.
May 5
Noise complaint
6:49 p.m.
Officer Montfort responded to the 4000 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive for a noise complaint, it was reported that a subject was playing loud drums near the tennis court. Officer Montfort arrived at the park and did not observe anyone playing the drums. Officer Montfort was greeted by several citizens that stated a male subject had just left the park after being spoken to. Case closed.
Suspicious vehicle
6:40 p.m.
Officer Tillman responded to Tarawitt Drive to a complainant who stated that she and three of her closest friends were attempting to leave the residence and someone had parked a vehicle in her driveway. The vehicle completely blocked her vehicle in her garage. Officer Tillman was able to run the registration through ELVIS and found the vehicle belonged to a resident at Tarawitt. Officer Tillman proceeded to the residence in which appeared under construction. Officer Tillman also spoke with a neighbor of the involved vehicle who called and left a message to the owner. A note was left on the vehicle explaining the situation. The complainant called an Uber for her and her friends to continue with their dinner plans at the restaurant.
