Alarm
7:19 a.m.
Officer Martinson responded to Gulfside Road in reference to a burglar alarm. Upon his arrival, Officer Martinson located and opened the door leading to the master bedroom. Officer Martinson cleared the home and found nothing suspicious at the time. A check of the open door revealed that the latch would not set in the striker plate to actually lock. There were no signs of forced entry and it appeared that the wind blew the door open. The key holder arrived and confirmed all was in order inside the residence. Case clear.
Abandoned vehicle
9:40 a.m.
Officer Nagell responded to Bayside Drive for a report of illegal parking. Upon Officer Nagell’s arrival, he observed a vehicle parked on Town property partially in the roadway. A check of the area was negative for any owner. Several residents advised that the vehicle arrived around 2:30 a.m. and the occupants appeared to be highly intoxicated. A computer check of the vehicle was negative for any wants or warrants on the vehicle or owner. Officer Nagell was unable to locate a phone number for the vehicle’s owner. Officer Nagell notified Lt. Hankins and due to the vehicle being parked obstructing the flow of traffic and had dispatch sent a rotation wrecker to remove the vehicle. Officer Nagell took photos of the exterior of the vehicle which had no obvious damage to it. Officer Nagell completed a tow sheet and placed a copy inside the vehicle on the passenger side seat. The vehicle was removed to a repair service station in Sarasota with no hold on it. The vehicle was issued a parking citation. Case clear.
Suspicious incident
12:36 p.m.
Officer Martinson while on patrol was dispatched to Bayou Sound on a call of a suspicious incident. The caller stated the neighbor was hearing a high pitched motor sound and that the residents have been out of the country for over a year. Upon arrival, Officer Martinson could hear the loud high pitched noise coming from the side of the house. Officer Martinson walked around to where the noise was coming from and determined it was coming from the pool pump. Officer Martinson advised the neighbor about the noise and told him that for liability reasons, Officer Martinson could not turn off the pump. He said he did not know his neighbor’s phone number but he would contact the Bayou Association to see what can be done about the noise and getting the pool pump turned off. Case clear.
Nov. 7
Rescue assist
3:41 p.m.
Officer Nagell and Sgt. Puccio responded to the 4200 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive for a report of a suspicious incident. Upon their arrival, the complainant advised that he thought someone shot his window. An exam of the sliding glass door revealed a non-bullet impact to the outside. A check of the lanai showed that a glass table top had blown off striking the sliding glass door causing the damage. The damage is estimated to be around $4,000. The unit is on the third floor facing the Gulf of Mexico. Case clear.
Nov. 8
Boat in canal
10:14 a.m.
Officer Connors was forwarded a complaint via an email from code enforcement, in regards to a concerned citizen complaining about a large yacht type vessel blocking a canal in the area of Ketch Lane. The complainant stated that the vessel was moored to a dock outside an adjacent residence and due to its large size, made passage very difficult. Officer Connors entered the canal in the 32 foot, and observed the large yacht type vessel moored to a dock on the south side of the canal and Officer Connors was safely able to make passage to the end of the canal. Officer Connors later contacted the complainant, informed him of Officer Connors findings and advised him that the issue was not a police matter, rather a homeowner’s association issue. Officer Connors advised the complainant to contact Longboat Key Marine or Code Enforcement with any further issues. Case clear.
Alarm
10:57 a.m.
Officer Hodo responded to Halyard Lane in reference to a burglar alarm. Officers arrived and noted that the alarm was set off by construction crew working on the boat.Officers conducted no further investigation. Case clear.
Suspicious incident
10:17 p.m.
Sgt. Cooper was dispatched to Putter Lane for a report of a suspicious incident. The unknown caller advised there were flashlights seen at the location. Sgt. Cooper made contact with the homeowner who advised that he was having a power issue and had called an electrician out for an emergency call. The homeowner was advised of the town ordinance regarding contractors not working past 5 p.m. and the work ceased. Nothing further to report. Case clear.
Nov. 9
Animal complaint
11:36 a.m.
Officer Connors while on patrol in the area of the Longboat Key Club Moorings, observed an injured cormorant, unable to fly and appeared to be lethargic. Officer Connors was safely able to corral the bird and transport it to Save Our Seabirds on Ken Thompson Parkway. The staff retrieved the bird and advised that the bird’s actions were consistent to the effects of red tide. Case clear.
Citizen dispute
9:33 a.m.
Officer Hodo responded to the 5200 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive in reference to a citizen dispute. Officers arrived and met with both parties involved. Officers noted that the dispute was over-cutting the trees on each other’s property. Officers noted that both parties were unable to verify their property lines or have any proof that the tress belong to them. Officers were advised that the President of the Association would handle the matter, since this is an ongoing problem. At this time no crime has been committed. No further investigation. Case clear.
Citizen assist
7:38 p.m.
Officer Tillman responded to Norton Street where the complainant stated they have no water to their residence. Officer Tillman called Public Works Department who stated that they were in the area due to an underground utility issue. They stated they had turned the water back on in the area and the Officer called the complainant back and advised him of the issue. Case clear.
Nov. 11
Traffic hazard
12:48 p.m.
Officer Nagell responded to the 1400 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive in reference to a car carrier parked in the safety zone. Upon Officer Nagell’a arrival, he made contact with the driver of the car carrier and advised him that the action was an infraction. A computer check via NCIC was negative for any wants or warrants. Officer Nagell issued a citation for the infraction and explained his options. The incident was captutred on vehicle two video. Case clear.
