A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Shakespeare’s classic forest comedy receives a fresh cultural framing from the Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe. Staged inside the Donelly Theater, the production retains the core narrative of mismatched lovers and meddling fairies while infusing the text with rhythm and movement characteristic of the company’s aesthetic. The approach grounds the magical realism of the Athenian woods in contemporary Black theatrical traditions, highlighting the humor and musicality embedded within the original blank verse.
