Hiroya Tsukamoto

Hiroya Tsukamoto grew up in Kyoto playing the five-string banjo, came to the United States in 2000 on a Berklee scholarship, and became a fingerstyle guitarist whose concerts critics have likened to an impressionistic journey. Japanese folk traditions share space in his writing with the South American nueva canción movement he met as a student in Osaka. He has played New York's Blue Note, appeared on NHK, Japan's national broadcaster, and twice finished runner-up at the International Fingerstyle Guitar Championship. The listing for his Fogartyville appearance stresses earthy, organic soundscapes and a mood of calm.
