It’s a Wonderful Life

Frank Capra's cinematic holiday staple is completely reimagined as a 1940s live radio broadcast in It’s a Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play at the Asolo Repertory Theatre. Five actors stand before vintage microphones in the Cook Theatre, portraying dozens of characters and generating live foley sound effects to tell the story of George Bailey and his guardian angel, Clarence. This theatrical framing transforms a familiar screen narrative into an exercise in vocal agility and old-school studio craftsmanship. The audience essentially serves as the in-studio spectators, watching the auditory illusion come together in real time.
