Moderns that Matter: The Bay Architecture Tour

The civic structures scattered around the city's bayfront serve as the focal point for this guided architectural walk. Organized by The Bay, the tour begins at the Chidsey Library Building and examines the historical and structural significance of the area's midcentury modern and contemporary designs. A knowledgeable guide unpacks the specific design principles that define the Sarasota School of Architecture, pointing out how these buildings adapt to the coastal climate through strategic shading and airflow. The route highlights how regional architects utilized concrete, glass, and innovative geometries to create spaces that remain culturally and visually significant decades later.
