Oceanography Scout Merit Badge (Virtual Program)

Instructors from Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium guide Scouts BSA members through the requirements for the Oceanography Merit Badge during this interactive virtual workshop. Broadcasting from the Sarasota research facility, educators cover fundamental oceanographic concepts, including the mechanics of wave formation, the mapping of the seafloor, and the chemical composition of seawater. The digital classroom format requires scouts to participate in guided discussions and complete an at-home laboratory experiment demonstrating water density and salinity. By the end of the session, participants fulfill all the written and practical prerequisites to submit their merit badge paperwork to their respective troops.
