Singing In the Rain

The frantic transition from silent films to the "talkies" in 1920s Hollywood provides the backdrop for Singin' in the Rain, a massive musical adaptation mounted by Asolo Repertory Theatre. The production attempts the logistical feat of replicating the iconic 1952 film live on stage, complete with complex tap choreography and a specialized plumbing system that floods the stage with actual water during the title number. The narrative follows a matinee idol and his obnoxious leading lady as they struggle to adapt to the new audio technology. The performance demands triple-threat execution from its cast, blending rapid-fire physical comedy with demanding vocal and dance requirements.
