SMH-Venice Health Connection: Pet Paws

Volunteers from the Humane Society of Sarasota County bring certified therapy dogs to Sarasota Memorial Hospital Venice for a dedicated hour of animal-assisted comfort. The program invites patients, visiting families, and hospital staff to interact with calm, highly trained canines of various sizes in a designated common area. The simple act of petting and sitting with the dogs has been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce clinical anxiety, and provide a much-needed mental break from the stresses of medical treatment. The casual, joyful interactions offer a brief window of normalcy and tactile reassurance within the sterile environment of the healthcare campus.
