The Audience: A Film with Helen Miren

What passed between Elizabeth II and her prime ministers in their weekly private meetings was never made public, and Peter Morgan's The Audience invents it. The play follows Helen Mirren's Queen across six decades, from a young monarch being coached by Churchill to a veteran squaring off with Margaret Thatcher (Haydn Gwynne), and at moments she faces her own younger self. Stephen Daldry directed this London production, captured live at the Gielgud Theatre in 2013, which won Mirren an Olivier Award and helped inspire Morgan's series The Crown. Paul Ritter also appears in the recording, shown at the Historic Asolo Theater.
