A Midsummer Night’s Dream

The Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe tackles Shakespeare’s most famous comedy under the direction of stage and screen veteran Geoffrey Owens. The production leans into the chaotic romantic entanglements and supernatural mischief that ensue when four Athenian lovers and a troupe of amateur actors wander into an enchanted forest. Owens’s direction focuses on the rhythmic drive of the Elizabethan text, highlighting the slapstick physical comedy of the Mechanicals and the erratic behavior of the fairies. The staging demonstrates the company's versatility, proving that their high-energy ensemble work translates seamlessly from R&B musicals to the complex meter of classical theater.
