Alvin Ailey Dance Theater

The pioneering choreography of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater returns to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. Recognized globally for its profound influence on modern movement, the New York-based company performs a mixed-repertory program that highlights both contemporary commissions and historic masterworks. The evening typically culminates with Ailey's signature 1960 piece, Revelations, which translates African American spirituals, song-sermons, and gospel music into a vivid physical exploration of grief and joy. The performance showcases the unparalleled athleticism and expressive depth of the ensemble, affirming the troupe's ongoing mission to preserve the Black cultural experience through rigorous, emotionally charged dance.
