Carrie The Musical

Carrie ran five performances on Broadway in 1988, a flop that has since built a cult following. Manatee Players are doing the version rewritten and slimmed down for a 2012 off-Broadway run, with Michael Gore's music, Dean Pitchford's lyrics and Lawrence D. Cohen's book, built around a bullied girl and her religious mother. Director and choreographer Neal Addison treats Margaret White as a woman with serious mental illness rather than a horror-movie villain. Suzanne Marschner plays her, Allie McLaughlin is Carrie, and Marschner's own daughters play Sue and Chris. The show runs in the Bradenton Kiwanis Theater, the smaller room at the Manatee Performing Arts Center, and prom attire is encouraged.
