Dear Evan Hansen

The Manatee Performing Arts Center stages the area premiere of the Tony-winning musical by Benj Pasek, Justin Paul, and Steven Levenson. "Dear Evan Hansen" follows an anxious, socially isolated high school student who gets caught up in a lie that goes viral after a classmate’s suicide. The production explores themes of adolescent loneliness, modern digital communication, and the ethical complications of fabricated grief. Known for its emotionally demanding pop-rock score, the show places heavy vocal and dramatic requirements on its central performer, who rarely leaves the stage while navigating a rapidly escalating web of deceit and misplaced family bonding.
