The Old Time Sailors

A crew of musicians dressed as 19th-century mariners drops anchor at the Manatee Performing Arts Center to deliver a raucous set of traditional sea shanties and Celtic folk music. The Old Time Sailors utilize an array of acoustic instruments—including fiddles, accordions, and bodhráns—to recreate the communal, working-class music of historic dockyards. The performance heavily relies on audience participation, with the crowd expected to stomp and join in on the repetitive choruses originally designed to coordinate physical labor on sailing ships. The afternoon show provides an immersive, historically flavored musical experience that feels more like a rowdy pub session than a formal concert.
