The Nutcracker

The International Ballet of Florida mounts a full-scale production of the Tchaikovsky holiday classic at the Manatee Performing Arts Center. The performance follows Clara’s Christmas Eve journey from a Victorian parlor into a snowy forest and the vibrant Land of Sweets, guided by the mysterious Drosselmeyer. The staging emphasizes classical Russian choreography, requiring immense technical precision from the principal dancers executing the intricate variations of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Snow Queen. The evening delivers the sweeping orchestration and elaborate costuming that have made the ballet a cornerstone of the winter arts calendar.
