Compagnie Leïla Ka | Bouffées, Ondulations, and Pode Ser

French choreographer Leïla Ka introduces her highly theatrical, physically aggressive dance vocabulary to the Historic Asolo Theater. Presented by The Ringling, the program features three distinct works—Pode Ser, Bouffées, and Ondulations—that investigate the constraints placed on the female body and the raw impulse toward rebellion. Ka’s aesthetic frequently contrasts delicate, historically resonant costumes with jagged, martial-arts-inflected movements and sudden bursts of hip-hop isolation. The choreography avoids linear storytelling, instead creating an atmosphere of internal struggle and exhausted defiance. The intimate, 18th-century architecture of the venue serves as a stark counterpoint to the fierce, contemporary nature of the dancing.
