Gallery Talks

Curators, research fellows, and guest scholars lead these focused, single-work discussions across the permanent collection rooms at The Ringling. Lasting about forty minutes, each talk eschews the broad sweep of standard docent tours in favor of granular scholarship, unpacking the provenance, material composition, and sociopolitical context of a chosen painting or sculpture. Speakers frequently address technical questions of restoration, iconography, or the collector’s market that brought the object to Sarasota, offering patrons access to curatorial research currently underway. The conversational format allows for close looking and substantive dialogue between specialists and seasoned museum visitors.
