Ghostbusters in Concert

A live symphony orchestra tackles the eclectic, synthesizer-heavy score of the 1984 supernatural comedy "Ghostbusters" at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. As the original film projects on a large screen above the stage, the musicians play Elmer Bernstein's whimsical, jazzy orchestrations in perfect time with the cinematic action. The score relies on unusual instrumentation, including early electronic keyboards and an ondes Martenot, to create the movie's signature eerie, comedic tone. The live accompaniment amplifies the tension of the on-screen spectral battles, allowing audiences to appreciate the complex musical architecture that underpins the classic Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd blockbuster.
