Living Shorelines Permitting Workshop: Sarasota County

Permits, not plantings, are the subject of this half-day workshop on living shorelines, the softer alternative to bulkheads and seawalls that relies on plants, oyster shell and other organic materials to hold a shoreline in place. The Sarasota County session of Florida Sea Grant's permitting workshop is pitched at people who already know the basics and want detail on how federal, state and, where they apply, local approvals work for installations in Florida. Instructors come from the Sea Grant program team, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and local regulators. A scenario activity follows the federal and state permitting sessions.
