Looking For Wonder | In-Gallery Workshops

Museum educators facilitate an intentional observation session in the galleries of The Ringling, steering participants away from hurried browsing toward contemplative analysis. Drawing on techniques of mindful observation and open-ended visual inquiry, the workshop slows down the viewing process to examine details, lighting, and brushwork on selected historical masterworks. Participants engage in silent viewing exercises, followed by guided group conversation and structured journaling prompts that investigate how scale and spatial arrangement shape an observer's emotional response. The session offers a quiet counterweight to standard museum pacing, providing tools for cultivating sustained attention in the presence of historic European paintings.
