Monthly Meeting – The State of Turtles on LBK

Weeks before the first loggerhead crawls ashore, the Longboat Key Garden Club gives its April program at the Windward Bay Clubhouse over to Renee Dillon of Longboat Key Turtle Watch, the volunteer corps that walks the island's beaches each nesting season to locate, mark and monitor nests. Dillon's talk on the state of the island's turtles takes stock of the protection efforts under way and what residents and renters can do to help, a timely subject on a barrier island whose Gulf-front condos sit directly above the nesting beach. The club's usual format applies: a member social first, then a brief business meeting, and then the program.
