Seba Calfuqueo: Tray Tray Ko

A single six-minute video occupies the Keith D. Monda Gallery for Contemporary Art in Seba Calfuqueo: Tray Tray Ko. Calfuqueo, a Mapuche artist born in Santiago, Chile, in 1991, works across video, performance, ceramics and installation. This 2022 piece takes as its subject the trayenko, or waterfall, a sacred site in the Mapuche worldview whose waters are bound up with lawen, the medicinal herbs that grow beside them. On screen the artist, in an electric blue coat, walks through the landscape and then into the river and the falls themselves.
