The Sarasota Orchestra shifts its focus from classical sonatas to blockbuster cinematic scores during this "Great Escapes" concert at Holley Hall. Conducted by Chris Confessore, the program highlights the massive thematic architecture required to anchor major motion pictures, featuring recognizable compositions from The Lord of the Rings, Rocky, and Willy Wonka. The performance demonstrates how the percussion and brass sections generate the dramatic tension and emotional swells necessary for the screen. Stripped of their visual narratives, the pieces allow the audience to appreciate the complex, standalone symphonic structures that define contemporary Hollywood orchestration.
