The Sarasota Ballet’s Program Two

The Sarasota Ballet explores varied choreographic voices with three diverse pieces at the Sarasota Opera House. The bill features two company premieres: Alexei Ratmansky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, set to the monumental Modest Mussorgsky piano suite, and Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s Solitaire, a melancholic look at an outsider longing to join the ensemble, danced to music by Malcolm Arnold. The program also returns Jessica Lang’s Lyric Pieces, which utilizes inventive, shifting set design to complement Edvard Grieg’s piano miniatures. The Sarasota Orchestra provides live accompaniment in the pit, anchoring an evening that highlights the classical rigor and dramatic nuance of the company's roster.
