The Script Society Reads “Clown Bar Christmas” by Adam Szymkowicz

Theater enthusiasts gather to read Adam Szymkowicz's absurd noir-comedy out loud during a meeting of the Script Society at Bookstore1Sarasota. The group tackles Clown Bar Christmas, a sequel to the playwright's hit underground comedy, assigning roles to attendees regardless of their acting experience. The narrative follows a hardboiled detective navigating a criminal underworld populated entirely by armed, depressed clowns during the holiday season. The session functions as a collaborative reading rather than a performance, allowing participants to explore the mechanics of comedic dialogue, pacing, and stage directions in a casual, analytical environment.
