The Script Society Reads “Superior Donuts” by Tracy Letts

Theater enthusiasts have the opportunity to dissect a modern American drama before it hits the stage at a meeting of the Script Society inside Bookstore1Sarasota. Facilitator Roxanne Baker leads a collaborative, out-loud reading of Tracy Letts’s Superior Donuts, a comedic play set in a decaying Chicago pastry shop. Participants take on assigned roles to explore the fraught dynamic between an aging, radical draft dodger and his ambitious young employee. Rather than a polished performance, the session functions as an interactive literary analysis, allowing attendees to examine Letts’s sharp dialogue and the underlying themes of gentrification, regret, and unlikely friendship.
