UPGRADE: A Middle and Digital Aged Play

An empty-nest couple tests the boundaries of technological companionship in the reading of UPGRADE: A Middle and Digital Aged Play. Staged at the Florida Studio Theatre’s Gompertz Theatre as part of the Burdick New Play Reading Festival, the story tracks Upper West Side residents Lorraine and Stu as they near their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary. Dissatisfied with their evolving relationship, they turn to an artificial intelligence program for connection. The comedy explores the friction that arises when a programmed assistant crosses the line from helpful software to an intrusive presence in their daily domestic lives.
