Viewpoint Lecture with Artist Joanna Manousis, PhD

British-American artist Joanna Manousis discusses her pioneering work with cast glass and dimensional mirrors in this Viewpoint Lecture at The Ringling. Manousis creates intricate, mixed-media sculptures that manipulate reflection and negative space to explore themes of mortality, human emotion, and grandiosity. Her presentation unpacks the technical challenges and philosophical motivations behind her doctoral research in glassmaking. Hearing her artistic process provides context for how she transforms a delicate, transparent medium into solid, deeply reflective installations that engage the viewer’s own gaze.
