Waitress (Touring)

The hit Broadway adaptation of Adrienne Shelly’s independent film, Waitress, brings its national tour to the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall. The musical follows Jenna, a small-town diner employee trapped in an abusive marriage, who channels her anxieties into inventing elaborately titled pies. Scored by pop singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, the upbeat, piano-driven soundtrack blends contemporary radio aesthetics with traditional theatrical storytelling. The narrative focuses heavily on the solidarity between Jenna and her female coworkers as they navigate unexpected pregnancies and chaotic romances. The production delivers a surprisingly nuanced exploration of domestic entrapment, balanced with genuine warmth and sharp comedic timing.
