Wild Sarasota: Florida’s Wild Cats

The elusive predators of the Florida scrubland take center stage during this ecological lecture organized by UF/IFAS Extension Sarasota County. Held at the Frances T. Bourne Jacaranda Library, the presentation details the distinct biology, hunting habits, and territorial ranges of the Florida panther and the bobcat. An environmental educator breaks down how these solitary felines navigate increasing urban development, explaining the tracking methods biologists use to monitor their fragile populations. Attendees learn how to identify tracks, understand the critical importance of wildlife corridors, and recognize the environmental pressures threatening the region's apex predators.
