—Phantom Phone Call
11:43 a.m.
—Officer Miano responded to Broadway for a 911 call from a cell phone. Once on scene, a staff member at the restaurant advised his work cellphone was accidentally calling 911. They advised there was no emergency at the location. No signs of suspicious activity were observed. Case clear.
—Dim Lights and Green Nuggets
—9:44 p.m.
—Officer Troyer while on patrol observed a white truck in the 6000 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive with faulty license plate lights. Officer Troyer conducted a vehicle stop and spoke with the driver and noticed an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. Officer Troyer asked the driver if there was any marijuana in the vehicle. The man admitted there was a little bit. Officer Troyer asked the driver to retrieve the marijuana and he reached to the center console of the vehicle and gave the Officer a small container. Officer Troyer opened the container and observed small amounts of loose green leafy substance inside the center portion. Officer Troyer asked the driver if that was it, to which he said there was more in the top. The driver opened the top of the container for the officer and there were two larger sized oval shapes of a green leafy substance suspected as marijuana. The green oval shapes were commonly referred to as “nuggets.” The driver also told the officer he did not possess a medical marijuana card. Officer Troyer had the driver exit the vehicle and stand in front of the patrol car. Officer Troyer informed the driver he was detained and read the driver his Miranda rights. The driver agreed to speak with the officer and admitted the marijuana was for personal use and it would test positive for marijuana. Officer Troyer conducted a field weight of the green leafy substance, which weighed in at approximately 2.3 grams. Officer Troyer conducted a field test kit for marijuana, it changed to a purple color indicating a positive test for marijuana. Based on the officer’s investigation, he found probable cause to charge the driver with possession of marijuana, less than 20 grams. Officer Troyer issued the driver a notice to appear citation. The driver wanted the officer to check the license plate lights before leaving the stop because he believed one of his lights was functional. The driver turned on his vehicle’s lights. Upon further inspection, the left license plate light was on, however, the light was so dim it was not projecting onto the license plate. The right license plate lamp was not functional at all. Officer Troyer weighed the marijuana once at the station and entered the blue container with marijuana into property and evidence. Picture of the incident were uploaded to the case files of the report. Case clear.

—Nothing Fishy Here
—10:22 a.m.
—Officer Van Dyke responded to the 2800 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive in reference to a trespass. Upon further investigation, the case was updated to a suspicious person. The complainant identified herself as the property manager. She said that a gray Ford truck was parked her client’s driveway and three unknown men were using the beach behind the residence. Upon arrival, Officer Van Dyke met with one of the men. He appeared to be fishing, but in the process of gathering his possessions, he said he had permission from the homeowner to be parked in the driveway. The man and his sons were cooperative throughout the investigation. Officer Van Dyke then called the complainant with the results of the investigation. The complainant advised she merely wants to make sure that the garage was accessible. The man and his sons left the area. Case clear.

—Telephone Game Threats
—4:21 p.m.
—Officer Pescuma responded to Ketch Lane regarding a reported threat/harassment incident that occurred in the past. Upon arrival, Officer Pescuma made contact with hte complainant who advised that he received information from his friend that another man had made threatening statements directly to the friend and that the friend later related the statements to the complainant. The complainant advised that the incident involving the two occurred in Sarasota which is outside the jurisdiction of the Longboat Key Police Department. The complainant said that he had sent the friend to the man’s residence to cut grass without knowing that the man would be present. According to the friend, the man became upset when discovering the friend at the residence and the man allegedly made threatening statements concerning the complainant during the interaction. The alleged statements were not made directly to the complainant and he did not report receiving any threatening written or electronic communications directly from the friend. Based on the information at the time of this report, the alleged statements were reportedly made verbally to a third party at a location outside the jurisdiction of the Longboat Key Police Department. The complainant didn’t report any immediate actions by the man indicating an attempt to carry out the alleged threat. The complainant was advised to contact law enforcement agency having jurisdiction over the location where the alleged statements occurred should he want to pursue the matter further. The complainant was also advised to immediately contact 911 if the man makes contact with him, comes to his residence, or attempts to carry out any threat or if any other suspicious or threatening activity occurs. Case clear.

—Unidentified Landscaping Object (ULO)
—12:42 p.m.
—Officer Tillman responded to the 1600 block of Gulf of Mexico Drive for a report of a suspicious aircraft. The complainant requested a phone call to document the incident. Officer Tillman called the complainant who reported that a 12 x 12 inch drone was seen flying approximately 10 feet from their balcony. The complainant stated that they reported the incident with the front desk manager who said that the drone was being flown by the St. Regis sod company for landscaping purposes. Complainant was given a case number. Case clear.

—Unmoored and Unbothered
—3:33 a.m.
—Sgt. Montfort while on patrol in Bayside Drive in the Village, observed a sailboat which had pulled from its mooring and was now against a dock at Bayside Drive. Sgt. Montfort was familiar with the vessel which had broken free from its mooring in the past. Sgt. Montfort attempted to contact the registered owner at both the phone numbers listed on file with negative results. At the time, the vessel was not adrift and not in danger of causing additional damage to the dock. Sgt. Montfort observed damage to the portside rear transom area where the vessel has scraped against the dock. Sgt. Montfort authored an email to marine patrol Officer Barrett to conduct a follow up on this date as he is assigned to marine patrol. Case clear.
—Eviction Notice at Sea
—10:05 a.m.
—Officer Barrett spoke with a man on his sailing vessel which is anchored south of a restaurant. He is living inside his vessel and working for a marine company. Officer Barrett reviewed the town ordinance with him and emailed him a copy. He said he had the long-term anchoring permit issued by the State of Florida with the Longboat Key location on it. After reviewing the state statute and Longboat Key ordinance he is still in violation of the ordinance. Officer Barrett gave him until Sunday to remove the vessel or stop living on it. Case clear.
