Banned Book Club: “Bridge to Terabithia” by Katherine Paterson

The Banned Book Club confronts the complexities of childhood grief as they discuss Katherine Paterson’s Newbery Medal-winning Bridge to Terabithia at Bookstore1Sarasota. The conversation delves into the devastating friendship between Jess and Leslie, analyzing how they construct an imaginary forest kingdom to escape their respective family pressures. The group will evaluate the novel's stark, unvarnished depiction of tragedy and explore why its secular portrayal of death and instances of mild profanity have made it one of the most frequently challenged books in American schools. It is an opportunity to analyze the enduring friction between protective censorship and vital emotional education.
