Banned Book Club: “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee

Bookstore1Sarasota’s Banned Book Club turns its attention to Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. The conversation centers on why this Pulitzer Prize-winning examination of racial injustice and moral growth in the Depression-era South remains a frequent target of censorship. Readers will explore the shifting critical perspectives on Atticus Finch and the complexities of presenting systemic racism through the limited viewpoint of a child narrator. The group aims to evaluate both the novel's enduring literary merit and the specific cultural friction that continues to provoke its removal from reading lists.
