Beethoven & Prokofiev

Violinist Gil Shaham joins the Sarasota Orchestra at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall to tackle the soaring lyricism of Beethoven's Violin Concerto. The Masterworks program, which also features Prokofiev's muscular Symphony No. 5, demands intense technical precision from the soloist and immense power from the ensemble. The evening opens with Lera Auerbach's "Icarus," a gripping contemporary orchestral retelling of the Greek myth that establishes a thematic focus on ambition and flight.
