Indigenous Voices Book Club: “A Council of Dolls” by Mona Susan Power

The Indigenous Voices Book Club meets at Bookstore1Sarasota to explore Mona Susan Power’s multigenerational novel, A Council of Dolls. The discussion centers on the harrowing historical trauma and enduring resilience of Native American women, traced through the perspective of a sequence of dolls passed down from mother to child. Readers will analyze how Power weaves magical realism and historical fact together to address Indian boarding schools and systemic displacement. The session provides a thoughtful, structured space to evaluate the novel's complex emotional depth and cultural resonance.
