Jazz at Two presents Hot Club SRQ

Violinist Keven Aland leads Hot Club SRQ through an afternoon of acoustic swing for the Jazz Club of Sarasota. Performing in the sanctuary of the Unitarian Universalists of Sarasota, the ensemble models its sound after the legendary 1930s Quintette du Hot Club de France. The repertoire highlights the gypsy jazz traditions popularized by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, defined by driving acoustic guitar rhythms and soaring violin improvisations. The church's natural acoustics favor the unamplified clarity and intricate string interplay of this specialized ensemble, allowing the nuances of the Parisian jazz style to emerge.
