Jazz Education

The Jazz Club of Sarasota hosts a hands-on instructional workshop for instrumentalists at the downtown Selby Library. Titled "Fundamentals of Jazz & Beyond," the session is geared toward musicians who already have basic proficiency on their instruments but want to understand the mechanics of group improvisation. Instructors break down the unwritten rules of the bandstand, covering how to communicate musical cues, the structure of a standard jam session, and the foundational theories behind jazz solos. The classroom environment provides a low-stakes laboratory for players to test their chops, ask technical questions, and learn how to actively listen and respond within a live rhythm section.
