National Theatre Live: Golden Boy

This cinema broadcast from National Theatre Live brings the acclaimed Almeida Theatre production of Clifford Odets’s Depression-era drama to the screen. Directed by Sam Yates, the revival stars Josh O'Connor as Joe Bonaparte, a young man torn between his talent for the violin and the brutal, lucrative world of prizefighting. The staging features a live string quartet that underscores the tension between Joe’s artistic spirit and his ruthless ambition. Rather than a traditional stage performance, The Ringling hosts a high-definition filming of the London production, capturing the propulsive energy of Odets’s classic exploration of American success and its moral cost.
