Provenance

The journey of a single, highly coveted painting drives the narrative of Provenance, a world premiere drama at the Jane B. Cook Theatre. Written by Jennifer Maisel and directed by Casey Stangl, the Asolo Repertory Theatre production tracks the artwork from its creation in early-twentieth-century Germany through its theft by the Nazis, eventually landing in a New Jersey living room in 2007. The narrative explores how a stolen object can alter the trajectories of multiple generations, asking difficult questions about restitution, the weight of history, and whether some losses can ever be truly repaired.
