Urinetown

Set in a dystopian city crippled by a 20-year drought, this satirical musical follows a populace forced to pay corporate fees just to use public restrooms. When a young hero decides he has had enough of the malevolent Urine Good Company and its greedy CEO, he leads a ragtag rebellion for bladder freedom. Staged by The Sarasota Players, the production ruthlessly parodies the conventions of musical theater itself, alongside capitalism, corporate mismanagement, and municipal politics. The show features a self-aware narrator, deliberate melodrama, and an eclectic score that borrows heavily from Kurt Weill and Broadway anthems to deliver its cynical but hilarious message.
