The Sarasota Orchestra presents an intimate program centered around one of the most recognizable and emotionally devastating pieces of American classical music. Samuel Barber’s "Adagio for Strings" is performed here in its original, unexpanded form as the second movement of his String Quartet. The tightly focused chamber concert also features Leonard Bernstein's final composition, the "Dance Suite" for brass quintet, written as a tribute to choreographer Jerome Robbins. Selections by Frank Bridge and Maurice Ravel’s "Le Tombeau de Couperin" round out an evening dedicated to complex, emotionally varied compositions that rely on sparse orchestration and the absolute technical exposure of the individual players.
