Ahoy-Hoy by Jenny Stafford

Jenny Stafford’s play Ahoy-Hoy receives a rolling world premiere production at the Urbanite Theatre. The comedy centers on the race to invent the telephone in 1876, following Elisha Gray as he realizes Alexander Graham Bell has beaten him to the patent office by mere hours. Stafford describes the setting as both 1876 and the present day, using the historical dispute to explore modern themes of ambition, innovation and the anxiety of being second. Two egos clash over a single device in a story about the absurd lengths inventors will go to secure their legacy.
