Artist Talk with Karina Yanes

Ceramicist Karina Yanes breaks down the conceptual framework behind her exhibition, Olive Branches Carried Us Home, during this speaking engagement at Art Center Sarasota. The artist discusses her specific approach to the medium, detailing how she utilizes clay to explore complex narratives regarding cultural memory, resilience, and displacement. The presentation provides insight into her technical process, from the physical manipulation of the material to the glazes used to achieve her distinct surrealist aesthetic. The talk offers gallery-goers a direct opportunity to question the artist about how three-dimensional, tactile objects can effectively preserve and communicate precarious personal and historical identities.
