As Earth is to Sky

The physical properties of raw materials and the limits of structural form are examined in As Earth is to Sky, a group exhibition at The Ringling. The presentation focuses on abstract sculpture, highlighting dense, heavy-duty constructions in wood, steel, copper, and bronze by artists such as Mark di Suvero, Bryan Hunt, John Van Alstine, and Yuriko Yamaguchi. These three-dimensional works are displayed alongside intricate pieces on paper and panel by Robin Rose and Robert Stackhouse. The curated selection emphasizes how artists manipulate weight, texture, and negative space to create dynamic objects that physically interact with and alter their surrounding environments.
