Candlelight: Queen vs. ABBA

Two distinct eras of European stadium pop collide in classical form as a string quartet interprets the catalogs of both Queen and ABBA. This Candlelight production alternates between the operatic arena rock of Freddie Mercury and the polished Swedish disco of Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. The musicians translate elaborate studio harmonies from tracks like "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Dancing Queen" into instrumental chamber pieces, relying entirely on violins, viola, and cello. The ambient lighting of thousands of artificial candles scattered throughout St. Boniface Episcopal Church provides a subdued backdrop for the heavily melodic program.
