Drumstick

The fall racing season continues with the Drumstick Regatta, an annual tradition hosted by the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. Dating back to 1979, the race originally gained fame for awarding frozen turkeys to the winners just in time for Thanksgiving. Today, it attracts a competitive fleet of Sunfish and other one-design dinghies to the waters of Sarasota Bay. Operating from the clubhouse on Ken Thompson Parkway, the volunteer-led race committee organizes the starts and courses, taking advantage of the shifting autumn breezes before the winter chill sets in.
